The House of Ashur series, also known as Season 3 of Spartacus, takes place several years after the events of the second season. The story revolves around the wealthy and influential Roman family, the Ashurs, who are embroiled in a bitter struggle for power and survival. The season introduces a new cast of characters, including Marcus Ashur (played by David Ramsey), a cunning and ambitious Roman senator; Livia Ashur (played by Viva Bianca), his sister; and Varro (played by Brenton Thwaites), a young and fearless gladiator.
: Original creator Steven S. DeKnight returned to craft an alternate timeline. In this version, the devious Syrian slave Ashur (played brilliantly by Nick E. Tarabay) is not killed on Mount Vesuvius. Instead, he helps the Romans crush the slave rebellion and is gifted the infamous Ludus of Batiatus as his reward.
